Job Description
The Contols Engineer is a hands-on role requires strong technical, organizational, and communication skills. This position offers the unique opportunity to leverage your professional programming proficiency in the sophisticated realm of PLC-controlled high-speed sorters and conveyor systems, driving innovation and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Translate customer requirements into innovative and precise programmatic designs, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
- Interpret and analyze electrical design drawings and specifications to seamlessly integrate them into machine controls programming.
- Foster professional growth by training colleagues in advanced technologies within the Controls Engineer's domain of expertise.
- Drive project success by supporting tailored implementations of cutting-edge technologies.
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineering teams to define I/O networks, address configurations, and select optimal equipment.
- Partner with PC software developers to establish streamlined interfaces and efficiently allocate task responsibilities.
- Align technological advancements with the BEUMER Group's standards, including the Center of Competence (CoC), ensuring innovation and consistency.
- Conduct rigorous in-house testing of machine control systems at BEUMER offices, ensuring functionality and reliability.
- Contribute to project engineering and commissioning efforts, facilitating seamless integration and execution.
- Spearhead on-site machine control commissioning, addressing real-time challenges with expertise.
- Prepare and rigorously test PLC hardware for deployment in high-impact projects.
- Strengthen operational support by contributing to second tier and third-tier software support lines.
- Tackle special projects or additional duties as assigned by management, adapting to dynamic company needs with agility and precision.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Advanced understanding of machine control systems and related concepts.
- Proficiency in advanced machine control concepts and fundamental mathematical techniques.
- Demonstrated expertise in programming Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs at a "Program Development Level," enabling simple program modifications for a single processor. Capabilities include hardware selection, I/O assignment, and logical control sequence identification in a streamlined and iterative process—all meticulously documented and adhering to the company's programming standards.
- Capability to develop and integrate SCADA systems for industrial automation, with a focus on Ignition SCADA platforms.
Qualifications
Education/Training
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering/Controls Engineering, or equivalent practical training and experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of proven expertise in the field of automated (PLC-controlled) conveyor systems and sortation.
- Evaluate and resolve complex controls engineering challenges independently.
- Stay ahead of emerging technologies and developments in engineering and automation.
- Work collaboratively within a project team to deliver results.
- Prepare comprehensive specifications and documentation that meet precise project requirements.
- Investigate and address technical issues, establishing preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
- Utilize computer-based tools for efficient project management and programming.
- Exceptional time management and the ability to multitask efficiently under pressure while maintaining accuracy and urgency.
- Detail-oriented mindset, paired with a strong aptitude for learning quickly.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Energetic, positive, and professional demeanor, with a dedication to teamwork and mutual success.
- Commitment to goal-setting and achieving excellence while genuinely caring for the well-being of others.
- Willingness to travel both nationally and internationally, with a travel expectancy of up to 40%.
